Reibey Room at The Argyle

Free before 10pm

We catch up with DJs Lavida and Chivalry, the infectious party-starters, about their bi-weekly party Release Yourself at The Argyle.

Who are the brains and the brawn of ‘Release Yourself’ and what’s it all about?
We’re actually a duo! Lavida and Chivalry (aka LaDance) together with The Argyle we proudly present ‘Release Yourself’. An outrageously fun, bi-weekly, hip-hop party located upstairs in the Reibey Room.

When did the idea for Release Yourself start, and how quickly did it all happen?
It all started shortly after a group meeting at the Argyle, when an opportunity arose and so we thought why not!? We were completely nuts planning a night that was entirely opposite to what Argyle was at the time known for, and The Rocks first hip hop side-room party, providing a musical option to our Argyle party guests, and here we are - 17 months strong and loving it!!

Do you remember the first party? How did it feel?
As any event organizer at their first big break, NERVOUS! Talented local brothers, 14th Minute were our first headliners.

What acts have played at Release Yourself?
We’ve had a myriad of indomitable local talent who have absolutely torn up every single Release Yourself event. Including but not limited to; Kato, Shantan Wantan Ichiban [FBi Radio], Rogers Room, Kristy Lee, Deckhead, Thieves, Crookes, Elly K, Dollar Bear, Here’s Trouble and Devola!

How would you describe the vibe and sound?
It’s a total party, and intentionally a completely different atmosphere to that of main room. We’ve witnessed it all in that room with people dancing on all sorts of furniture.

Have you got any surprises planned, or what’s coming up in the next 6 months for Release Yourself?
Sydney alone has a huge pool of extremely talented acts, and Release Yourself is a big supporter of local talent! The Argyle attracts thousands of people from all parts of town and even countries and so we’ve carefully hand picked each and every performer at our parties, providing an opportunity for the very best of Sydney’s local artists to showcase what they’ve got during our nights.
So expect even bigger and better in the upcoming coming months!

Are there any tracks that are Release Yourself anthems and you just have to play at every party:
- Bubble Butt ft. Bruno Mars, Tyga & Mystic by Major Lazer
- Pony by Ginuwine
- Let Me Clear My Throat by DJ Kool
- Gettin’ Jiggy With It by Will Smith
- Sexual Healing by Max-A-Million ft. Marvin Gaye
