Get some soul in your day

BY Danny De Sousa

When you think soulful house music production, the USA, UK and even France spring to mind. Not too many people realize the pool of talent sitting in our own backyard.

DJ Jorj has been around for a long time. The list of clubs he’s played both in and outside of Australia is even longer.

Our neighbour, from Melbourne, also has a long list of productions and remixes signed to some of the biggest record labels in the industry including Defected, Ministry of Sound, Distant Music, Kneedeep Recordings and Soul Heaven.

Having worked with some of the most recognizable names in the dance music scene (think Masters at Work, Frankie Knuckles, Dimitri from Paris and Ron Carroll), Jorj is really no stranger to house music. Nor should he be. Have a listen to his production work. There's a reason it's on the compilations in stores and in the record bags and CD wallets of other DJ's - it's good. He’s good!

Jorj's production works and sets are uplifting, full of energy and built for the dance floor. Listening to him play is like being in a guessing game - you never know what’s coming up next, it could be disco, something tribal, a massive focal track or something latin. Having seen him play many times, and danced through his sets, this guessing game quickly becomes an enjoyable ride through a musical journey with Jorj at the wheel.

Thankfully Jorj does come up to Sydney to play a few times a year so you can witness the man in action. But be warned; bring your dancing shoes

Do yourself a favour. Check out his music and be sure to catch him next time he’s in town – and hopefully that’ll be soon.
